Hi guys,

I finally upgraded to OL2003, and there is one thing I am
having problems with -- closing it!

It appears to be running in the background at all times
(as evidenced by the envelope in the system tray, as well
as the process in Task Manager.

This is terribly annoying, because when I head out on the
road, I check my pop mail via IMAP. Therefore, the
read/unread flags keep getting reset.

So, before leaving my house, I would shut down outlook
before I check my mail remotely.

Otherwise, I'd come home and see 5 copies of all my e-
mails!!

With Outlook 2003, it seems like I cannot shut it down!
Unless I wipe it out in Task Manager, even after closing
the app, no dice.. it's still checking my mail!!

Is anyone aware of this?

Shutting it down via Task Manager is not the best
solution, since I know it could wreak havoc with my PST
(and it barks at me when I re-start it.)

Any ideas? Comments? Work-arounds?

Thaks!

I'm only noticing this behavior with ActiveSync and leaving the iPaq in the
craddle. The only way is to power the iPaq off in the craddle or remove it
before shutting Outlook down.

I've also heard that WinFax Pro can cause Outlook 2003 to fail to shutdown
properly.

try logging off your IMAP4 server first. it runs in teh backround

(e-mail address removed)

If you restart your machine before leaving and do not
launch Outlook 2003 it will stay off. That's the only
solution I have found to this damn annoying problem.

Very interesting...!! I wonder if indeed it's related to
ActiveSync!

It's funny, because I did find this problem to be
intermittent.

Sometimes it's okay, other times, it's not.

I noticed that right now Outlook closed fine (no iPAQ in
the cradle). However, last night, it wasn't in the cradle
either (when I sent the post), and I most definitely had
to stop the process manually.

Maybe it has to do with whether the PocketPC is in the
cradle when Outlook is started.??

Interesting..!

I was having a similar problem with OL2003 not closing. I disabled all my
add-in, both via the registry and via Outlook's options setting to no avail.
I corrected this with a WinFax Pro setting! I had it set to "Enable sending
faxes by email" -- if I uncheck this option in WinFax Pro's Program Setup,
OL2003 exits as it should.

I can't close Outlook without using the task manager. Also getting
"Close Program-WMS IDLE" when I shut down the computer.
