Camera, and sound question

I have the Nikon Coolpix 4600 camera. It is capable of doing video, but not
sound because sound takes up a lot more of the memory card so i didn't want
the feature. But I have son doing a project with some friends for school and
they are going to be doing a "news report". I can set the camera up to work
fine, and get it onto Windows Movie Maker 2, too edit and add sound to, but
if they were to record there voice by a microphone connected to the computer,
would it work if I just took hte wave file and put it over top of the video
file? Or do I need to edit it in some fancy way? Thank you in advance.

Yes. Switch from Storyboard view to Timeline view and it will seem
almost self-explanatory.
Or do

If you want to, but then having a sound editing program would be
necessary.
Thank you in advance.

Sure.
