my system shuts down by itself about once per day and reboots with some DOS
prompts. The error is that the calendar has changed to 1/1/2002. The fix is
to manually adjust the calendar to current date/ time. But this is getting
old.

I tried a system restore to an earlier date, but I get a message that system
restore was not completed. The retsore points are there and I have tried this
with several dates, to no avail.

Windows XP Media. Thank you for any insight

Thank you Vinod. The symptoms as outlined in the link are different than
mine. I have no issue with the calendar time being off or slow, it just
resets approx once per day to 1/1/2002. Also note that I have an XP Media
edition. The link is for Windows 98.

Forgive me if I ask or am responding ignorantly. I appreciate your
response, and will check further into it. Just thought I'd emphasize the two
points in case that conjures up another solution/ explanation. Thank you,
Tom

you need to change the motherboard bios battery.
thats why it resets to that particular date.
