How does one calculate the Easter date using Excel? Since
the date can vary so much from year to year, what would be
the logic behind the calculation?

Hi Franklin!

Re: Since the date can vary so much from year to year, what would be
the logic behind the calculation?

Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal
equinox.

More precisely: Easter Sunday is the first Sunday after the
"official'' full moon on or after the ``official'' vernal equinox.

The official vernal equinox is always 21 March.
But the official full moon may differ from the real full moon by one
or two days.

All these issues and methods of calculation are covered at:

Easter is a crucial date for Christian calendar purposes because a lot
of public holidays are fixed with reference to Easter.

Hi!

"....in 1928 a Bill was passed by the British Parliament which woul
allow the Church of England to ‘fix’ Easter to be the Sunday after th
second Saturday in April. This would have the effect of restrictin
Easter between 9 April and 15 April. However, this Bill can only tak
effect after it has been agreed by the World Council of Churches
Assuming that this agreement may still be sometime in coming...."

This little reminder of the optimist days of old comes from what seem
a very erudite article on Easter date-fixing in its more conventiona
interpretation. www.mwls.co.uk/easter.htm is the page.
