cable disconnected msg, how to prevent

I have a lan on a linksys router. When I disconnect one of the machines form
the net, I get a 'cable disconnected' message periodically on the remaining
machines. Is there a way of preventing this iritating message?

Sounds like a broadcast message from your Linksys router. Check its configuration to see if you have some administrator alert enabled. Too many Linksys routers to guess which one you have.
