I'm using windows xp professional 2002 and running
internet using cable connection. After I'm using internet
connection for some time, the connection would just
freeze permanently (as if disconnected, but no crash or
hang - computer is ok), but it is not actually
disconected in status. I've tried to ipconfig and ping my
server gateway and no problem there. Dial up is possible
during this freeze period with no problem at all. The
only temporary cure is to restart the computer and the
cable connection will be running again (but after some
time it will freeze as if disconnected). I've tried
latest antivirus from macafee and symantec, full system
scan several times and find no virus. I've updated the
latest definitions and tools for viruses and such on my
norton antivirus program and latest and complete windows
update.
Resetting my cable modem (standby or replugging the cable)
does nothing to the problem. Reinstalling explorer has no
effect. Reinstalling my network adapter also no efect. My
internet provider have checked and found nothing wrong.
Any virus or bug here as far as you know? What should I
do and what is the possible cause for this problem? Re
Installing windows is the lst thing on my mind since I
have tons to back up and many programs to be re installed
after deleting everyting.
