My computer was frozen, so it was shut down by pressing the power button.
When I went to turn in back on it came up with the error: could not find
c:\windows\system32\config\system
When I went to restore, I went through the process, pressed R and pressed 1
for c:/windows, then it went to c prompt, me not knowing to much about this
and not having access to the Internet on another computer, I would just type
exit because I didn't know what to do there. Then I just reloaded Windows XP
Home Edition from the Reinstallation CD that came with the Dell computer.
Now I lost alot of space on my computer. I know my old programs are there
somewhere, because when I went to search for a file you can see it searching
in some of my programs that was on the c drive, that is no longer there.
When I go to install something that was there before but not showing up, it
says that it is there, if I want to overwrite it.
Question: Can I get my programs and files back?

Hi Bonnie,

To locate your programs do this:

Single click on My Computer on the Start Menu and clicking on the Local Disk
(C:).
Double click on Local Disk (C:). Now double click on the Program Files
folder.
If you get a screen that says these files are hidden then click on Show the
contents of this folder. Now you will see all the Dell programs installed on
your Dell computer, maybe other programs that you added to your Dell computer.
Do you see any of your programs there?

Also to locate your files to this:

Click on the Search on the Start Menu. Click on green arrow to the left of
"All files and folders". Next type in the name of the file that you want to
find in "all or part of file name" box or type the file's extension if you
are not sure what the file's name you are looking for, for example for a
document file, type *.doc in the field in "all or part of file name" box and
click Search then the search will find all the document files ending in *doc
on your Dell computer system, the results are listed on the right hand side
of your screen in Search Results. Did you find the files you are looking for?

Hope this helps you
