Reinstall using XPsp1. 40G drive partitioned in fourths, no formatting.
[C,E,F,G. D is CDrom.]
Came out with C: as (System), G: as (Boot). [E & F weren't formatted during
install.]
Did I Choose this layout by accident?
Is it even a standard Option?

What happened here is that G: happened to be the active partition during the
install, so the bootloader was put there. However the partiton to install-to
was chosen as the one which is now C:

Fortunately this is a relatively easy one to fix, you need to change the
active partition to c;, then boot into the recovery console and use fixboot
to reinstall the bootloader onto it. Back up your data first incase of any
mishaps though.

It is much more of problem is the system ends-up on something other than C:
- in that case a fresh install is often the only cure.

To avoid this happening on multiboot systens, always make sure that the
partition you are installing XP to is made the active one beofre running
setup.
