To Whom It May Concern:

I am having some issues installing Win XP Home Edition. I
reinstalled WIN XP because I was getting a lot of spam
emails and pop-ups. And now, because I had a Sandisk 6-1
media card reader plugged into my USB port during
installation, my C drive has now turned into a G drive. I
was given a separate CD with IDE drivers, LAN drivers,
and VGA and Audio drivers. This CD recognizes looks for
the C drive when it tries to install a driver for my
sound card. Because it can't find the C drive, my sound
card is not working. Does anyone have a clue whats wrong?
If you happen to know how to change the G drive back into
the C drive, please let me know. I tried creating a disk
that starts in MS-DOS and try formatting everything from
there, but even after formatting and reinstalling, it
doesn't work because it still shows G drive. I have just
unplugged the reader itself and reinstalled SP and it
also didn't work. My guess would be to open my
motherboard up and hit one of the jumpers to set the
computer back to its original configurations for BIOS on
the motherboard. But I'd like to avoid that until I get
some advice. Please reply back.

This happens with IDE Zip drives also. The only way I've
ever been able to fix this problem is to remove the
offending drive and reinstall windows.
I'll be watching this thread to see if there is any way to
change that drive letter.

Good Luck

You can not change the G: drive to become the C: drive. The system must be
installed as such.

Before you do a clean install - not a repair install - disconnect the cables
to your Sandisk drive. When you install be certain that the setup package is
installing to the desired drive. Format the partition. Continue with the
install. When setup has completed, shut down - reconnect your Sandisk drive.
Restart the computer. The operating system should now be on C:
drive/partition
