C Drive Low on Memory

Hi,

I make it a point to delete unwanted files in my laptop's C Drive every now
and then. I run disk defrag regularly. However I have noticed that the
available memory in my C Drive decreses steadily. Within 2 weeks it has
dropped from 30% free space to 19% now. I dont understand why.

I have no major problems, it 's just that I take steps to ensure that I have
sufficient available memory in my memory constrained laptop. Please advise
what I can do to check what are the files that seem to be increasing in size?
Does compressing C drive help? If I do compress the C drive will the overall
performance be affected in anyway?

My O/S is XP Pro (SP) 1. I have Norton AntiVirus in C Drive. The Webroot
Spysweeper and WinGuide's Registry Cleaner are installed in D Drive. I use
them to maintain my system as well.

Turn off the System Restore - reboot..
Does the free space return?

If so, change the percentage allowed for System Restore and turn it back on.
 
Hi,

Run disk cleanup to clear all temp files, internet cache files, etc.,
You can also click the Advance button to clear the old restore files.

After all, go to device manager to resize the restore files size.
By default, windows set it to 10% of the C drive. However, a 500MB restore
files size is good enough.
