Recently I upgraded from Office XP to Office 2003.

I enjoy the Desktop alert functionality which provide a summary of the email
when a new one is received so that I do not have to switch back to Outlook.

However, when I click the flag or X on the Desktop Alert, to mark it or
delete the message which came in, I get a popup saying "Operation Failed".

I would like to get this working without reinstalling Office 2003 from a
fresh install due to the time it would take. My co-worker installed a fresh
copy of Office 2003 and his works just fine.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Clear your Deleted Items folder and try again.

Tips of the month:
-Save Embedded Pictures in Their Original Format
-Create an Office XP CD slipstreamed with Service Pack 3

I tried that and it still pops up with the error "The Operation Failed". I
tried clicking the X to delete the item.

are you using it against exchange server? if so, which server version and
are you using cache mode?

Yes. I am using it against an exchange 5.5 server, which will be upgraded
to 2000 soon.

I also do have cache mode turned on.

try a new profile - if that doesn't help, disable cache mode.
