Do you also have several anti-spyware, adware etc apps that are used to scan
the system in safe mode?

Here are some links for removing malware, tips for handling a slow computer
and tips for clean boot troubleshooting.

Thanks for your help Rock,

I tried some of those tools ,
still , i feel like the prob is still there.
I observed that ,when I try to reboot ,
it is trying to end a programs called "ccApp" and "DISCover play.." ,
am not sure of what exactly these programs do.
I am using SONY VAIO laptop..

thanks ,
Raj ..

"ccApp" is part of Norton Antivirus. "DISCover play" is a Sony
application.

First make sure the machine is virus/malware-free:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

If the machine is virus/malware-free, do clean-boot troubleshooting:

Clean-boot advanced troubleshooting in Windows XP -

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting
this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA).

Some of those tools? Which ones exactly? If the problem still exists go to
explore the ones you haven't used yet. ccApp and Discover Play give you
some clues. As Malke said the are associated with a Norton program and a
Sony app. Use the clean boot troubleshooting links we gave you to disable
them and see what happens. If Norton works on your system use it, but if
not you might want to get a different AV application, and don't go with
another of the large suites like McAfee.
