If you have Avery or Avery-compatible busniness card sheets, you could try
the
free version of avery's Design Pro Limited.
It is a kind of cripple ware, as you cannot add templates yourself. And it
has less templates then the full version. It has a couple of businesscard
templates, though. It also has a good selection of designtools (as you may
expect of a company who's purpose is selling pieces of paper ;-P )

If you have MS Word 97 or up (Shame on you - just kiddin') you can try the
avery Word wizard with 475+ Templates. (http://tinyurl.com/2jku)
When the OP asked, I looked at OOo, and yes, it does have a few templates
for business cards, but I couldn't find anything that would let me do
freeform cards. Suggestions?
