Looking for software that will allow one to compose and print business
cards, including the ability to insert graphics/logos. I've scanned
Pricelessware site, but no luck.

MSWord will print to standard Avery 8376, but text only. Can't insert
logos without MAJOR custom composition. I've done that for labels with
graphics: don't want to do it again!

Many thanks,

Looks like a nice proggy, but over 50MB download?? That's a little
steep for me!
Yea;

This sucker is a PIG. They must've hired an ex-M$ codewriter...Anyway,
I forgot to mention that there is one drawback: Proprietary file format.

The way I got around this was by "printing" to my pdfcreator and then
opening up the pdf in...I think, irfanview. I know (OT)photoshop can do it.

Ennywho, bottom line, even with the file format it does do the job well.

Mel,

thanks very much for the link. You know, 'sfunny: I could see those
entries when I did a search for "business cards"; but, when I opened the
"Business-Home" listings, I didn't get the same format as when I used
your link. Not sure why, but anyway, I NOW see the proggies.

Many thanks again.

I'm sure that OpenOffice.org will do it if you format the page properly
for the correct paper type.

(expletive deleted) Google. . .

Google is showing links to the text files that are used to create the PHP pages and (mostly) NOT
showing the PHP pages themselves. When I first set up the subdirectory searches they worked
beautifully. . . showed the PHP pages. . . I dunno what (if anything) I can do - suggestions
welcome. Meanwhile I suggest you start with the Program Index page and/or Category Index page and
use "find". That will get you to the proper links.

There's a business card app on the Webware page that might be of interest:

The PCman Website
http://www.thepcmanwebsite.com/business_card_creator.shtml
Create then print cards - use your own image or one of ours; select typeface; text color; backgrounds.

Many thanks, Susan.

I thought I might have been using a bad link. I picked up the link I
used from the thread where you were explaining the switch in servers (I
think!).

Anyway, thanks again for your help, and a great site/service.

John,

Didn't think of trying OO, though I do have it. Since it mimics
MSOffice to a certain degree, I just assumed it had the same
limitations. Thanks for the tip.

Well, to be honest, I don't use MS Office or have it installed on my
system. I use WordPerfect 6.1 which *will* make business cards with
great ease, so I just assumed that surely any office suite worth its
salt would make business cards. I'll download and reinstall OOo to make
sure.

Here ya go, straight from the OOo's (ver. 1.1.4) help file mouth:

Creating and Printing Labels and Business Cards

Designing Business Cards Through a Dialog
Choose File - New - Business Cards to open the Business Cards dialog,
which allows you to choose how your business cards will look.
Designing Labels and Business Cards
You can design both labels and business cards through the Labels dialog.
1.Choose File - New - Labels to open the Labels dialog.
2.On the Labels tab, under Format, define the label format.
OpenOffice.org Writer contains many formats of commercially available
sheets for labels, badges, and business cards. You can also add other,
user-defined formats.
3.On the Labels tab, under Inscription, you can choose what you want
written on the labels.
This often involves database fields, so that the labels can be printed
with varying content, when sending "Form Letters" for example. It is
also possible to have the same text printed on every label.
Use the Database and Table list boxes to select the database and table
from which the data fields are obtained. Click on the arrow button to
transfer the selected data field into the inscription area. Press Enter
to insert a line break. You can also enter spaces and any other fixed text.
On the Format tab you can define your own label formats, not covered by
the predefined formats. To to do this, select "User" from the Type list
box. On the Options tab, you can specify whether all labels or only
certain ones are to be created.
4.On the Options tab page, make sure that the Synchronize contents box
is selected. If this is selected, a label only has to be entered (on the
top left label) and edited once.
5.As soon as you click on New Document, you will see a small window with
the Synchronize Labels button. Enter the first label. When you click on
the Synchronize Labels button, the current individual label is copied to
all the other labels on the sheet.
6.Click on New Document to create a new document with the settings you
have entered.

John,

MSWord does indeed have the capability to print labels, business cards,
and the like, with formats for all the popular Avery forms, which one
can select by form #. The problem is that when filling out the info for
your business card, you cannot insert a graphic, such as a logo, etc. in
the card--only text is permitted.

Anyway, I downloaded Avery DesignPro from the link in Pricelessware, and
it works like a champ. Even a dummy can produce a decent looking
business card, including graphics, following the steps in their "wizard".

Thanks for doing the research in OO.

Stranger,
You're right. I tried to create a business card in OOo and it's so
confusingly difficult that I gave up. There's no excuse for it being
that way. It's a good thing that I use another commercialware suite when
I do such things. Otherwise, I'd do like you did and download that Avery
program.

Glad you were able to find a solution.
