Burning to Cd

I have a small folder that I want to burn to CD/DVD, I have little of
experience of this and only ever done a couple of music CDs.
I am trying to burn a `word document` and a small `exe` file which in in a
folder. I am not sure if these files dont burn to CD or if I am not looking
in the correct places.
Any replies appreciated
