Does anyone know how to burn music files to a sony mini-
disc. I don't think Windows Media supports mini-disc's as
a device, but I've heard Real Audio does. My computer
recognizes the mini-disc device when I plug it in a USB
port, but after that I'm at a loss.

my mini disc player does not have a recordable function.
any adapters out there. i cant seem t find one.

You need to buy a NetMD Minidisc recorder.

Sony uses its own compression format called Attrac (now
on version 3) and in order to convert files to this
format for acceptance by the minidisc you need the
software that comes with the NetMD (it's called Sonic
Stage).

It's a pain in the arse to use as the principle involved
makes you "check" songs out of the software a maximum of
3 times beofre you have to check them back in again (that
is to say that you can only have one song on a maximum of
3 different MD's at any one time). I hope you can see
from this that it's not as easy as plugging in a standard
minidisc recorder and looking for some kind of burn
option. If you already have a NetMD then get your hands
on a copy of Sonic Stage (which should have come with it)
and you're laughing.

I think that Realplayer also supports this format which
is where you may be getting confused (although to the
best of my knowledge it does not offer any burning
facility).

Hope this helps but I'm not sure how accurate it is, it's
just my understanding. I recently bought a NetMD
(superb) and found that www.minidisc.org is a useful
reference site.

All the best,

Dazzle.
