Built in Speakers

I have a DELL INSPIRON 1100 laptop and supposedely it has built in speakers
(I can even see them) However, no sound comes out. WHen I use headphones, the
sound works perfectly, so it is something wrong with the speakers themselves.
I went through the step-by-step troubleshooting guide that comes with
Microsoft XP (Which is my operating system) but nothing seemed to work. (I
followed the instructions to the best of my ability, but I am in no way an
expert and hope I followed the directions correctly!) I have SigmaTel audio.
Any ideas or advice?
