Im building a new system, this one keeps burning up
secondary hard drives, tried replacing parts but cant
afford trial and error anymore so I got an asau a7n8x
deluxe board xp1800 procssser and a gig of memory.
Problem is I want my main hard drive to be this one,and I
have heard It will require me to "re activate" with the
new changes,I have had to call once and get a number when
the last one burnt up. I dont know If I can get another I
would rather avoid that because the guy last time seemed
like he didnt want to give it to me. Is there any way to
keep the present activation?

What do you mean activate? If you have an IDE hard drive, you just make sure
the jumpers are set for master drive and connect it. I'm not sure what you
mean by reactivate.

Haven't you heard of Product Activation? When you upgrade your computer
too much for MS, then you are promted to "reactivate."

See www.aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm for the way a set of hardware is seen
as 'substantially unchanged'. If you use the hint given about Volume
serial number under Formatting Hard Drive, then you are probably
seeing three changes in the collection (IDE controller on board; CPU
type and probably amount of RAM). If that is all you change you will be
within tolerance and it ought to go through on the net

There is no limit on moving from one set of hardware to another, but if
you do it to something different within 120 days of the last activation
you will have to phone in. Any reasonable explanation is accepted -
there might be difficulty in working out one for moving to new hardware
twice a week though.

Sorry, you were talking about a hard drive, I didn't read between the lines
to see you were referring to using your OS.
