I recently installed SP2 on two computers that are running
XP. After the install one computer is working fine but the
other one can't run msconfig.exe and if the task manager
is opened the only way to make it go away is to shutdowm
windows and restart it as it doesn't have a close function
on the window it opens. Can anyone help me with these two
issues?

Click on the border of Task Manager to see its menu bar.

Exactly what happens when you try to tun the System Configuration Utility?

With only that information I can only tell you what my approach woud be.
1. On the computer with the problems go to add/remove programs and remove SP2.
2. Go to start---run---and type in SFC /scannow (notice space after 'C')
3. Reinstall SP2 making sure nothing else is running and you're offline

Sad to say, that is the sign of a virus infection. The virus prevents access
to the System Configuration Utility as a way of preventing you from removing
it from the Startup tab.

I have run virus scans from several sources on the web and
they all say my system is clean.

I agree that it may be virus interaction, but before removing SP2, try
running msconfig in safe mode.

I ran a virus scan which indicated my system was clean. I
then removed SP2 and reinstalled it. I am now able to run
msconfig but task manager still does not have any way to
close it after it is opened except by restarting w3indows.
And that is one pain in the ass. Any more suggestions?
They would be greatly appreciated.
