Hello,

I use data validation tool the basic way, LIST setting as validation
criteria and SOURCE range in the same worksheet. I do not use any static or
dynamic named ranges.

The problem is that no dropdown list is displaying anymore. I correctly have
the data validation message in my cell in case I input wrong data which is
not in my SOURCE range, but I do not see any more the drop down list when I
select the cell...

Of course the IN CELL DROPDOWN option is ticked ! But it seems not to work
anymore :(

It comes from this workbook only, because it works properly and as usual in
a new one.

I compared the Options settings, view settings, tried to lock/unlock all
cells and already restarted the CPU but nothing...I must have missed
something !

Please help ! Is it a known bug, or just an option to tick I missed ?

Thx

Hi

There is no bug that I am aware of.
Are you absolutely sure that the range you have given for the List, is
the range than contains the List values?

Hello Roger,

Yes of course it contains the list values !!!
I am very used to Excel it and this is the very first time that happens to me.

Ant that can't be that because even with a blank range selected, a single
row in cell drop down list appears ;-)

That has only been happening in this sheet, others workbooks and worksheets,
even in the same or a different Excel process, work perfectly !

So really believe meit seems to be much more subtle ;-)

Thx for your enquiry

Are you using xl97?

Do you have windows|freeze panes turned on?

Is the cell with data|Validation in the top frozen pane?

If all 3 are true, then this is a bug (IIRC) that was fixed in xl2k.

The easiest work-around is to remove the freeze panes.

Another possibility.

<Tools> <Option> <View> tab,

Under "Objects" ... See if "Hide All" *IS* checked.

If it is, just click on either one of the other 2 choices.

hello Ragdyer,

Thanks for your suggestion, but it is not that...I really think I have a bug
in this sheet :(

Please do not hesitate to makes any other suggestion :)

Thx ;-)

You haven't commented on Dave's suggestion.

Do you have XL97?

It's really best to respond to *all* suggestions, which does eliminate
variables and helps lessen the guessing probabilities.

Is there a possibility that there is some code in this sheet that could
inadvertently be doing this?

I use Excel 2002 SP3 and my computer is fully updated (OS & Office)

Hello again,

Of course no, there is no code, no very-hidden items or anything else. For
instance if I copy and paste the full content of this sheet into a new one,
that works perfectly.

I just never saw that before and I expect it is a bug :) I am just looking
for people experiencing this issue ;-)

Thanks for all your answers...the mystery remains unsolved ;-)
