Hello Everyone,
I have a Dell Dimension laptop that gives me a BSOD just after the desktop
and taskbar appears. The error codes I get are as follows:
0x1000008e then
0x00000005
0x8056eba4
0xf94c0988
0x00000000
I thought that it may be the video driver (NVidea G force) because I am able
to boot in safe mode. I did and uninstall and reinstall of this driver but
still get the same results. The BSOD does not stay on long enuff to see all
of the stats. I got the error codes from event viewer in a minidump. Not
sure what to try next. Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks in Advance

Hi Parker,

To determine what driver is causing the problem I need you to enable driver
verifier.
Steps:
1) Windows Key + R
2) Type in 'verifier' and hit enter
3) Make sure 'Create Standard Setting' is selected and hit next
4) Click on 'Select all drivers installed on this computer' and hit Finish
5) Reboot

There is a possibility that your computer will crash on reboot. If this
occurs hit F8 when rebooting just before the windows logo screen and select
the safe mode boot option. Follow the same steps above but on step 4 choose
'Select driver names from a list'; hit next; check the box next to any
driver where the provider is not Microsoft; hit Finish; reboot.

This will slow the performance of you computer a little while enabled but
will hopefully catch the driver causing corruption. Next time you crash
the blue screen will hopefully say something like
"DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION". If this occurs please send the
corresponding minidump (by default it is at c:\windows\Minidump ) my way.
If you have any questions or I didn't explain something well enough don't
hesitate to e-mail me back. Good Luck,

Thanks For your quick response Joshua,

The only non-microsoft drivers installed were from Roxio which seemed to be
loaded with the Napster programming. I didnt see Roxio in the AddRemove
programs in control panel. It may have come with Napster?! The BSOD gave me
the same error it had before and just as quickly before it rebooted. Is
there something I can uninstall to correct this or maybe an update from
Roxio for the driver? Does that seem to be the problem?

ThanksAgain

Hi Parker,

Was a minidump file created I can look at? It may not be related to
either Roxio or Napster. The best way of figuring these things out is to
debug the dumps created by Verifer. Otherwise we could be uninstalling and
reinstalling software all day and could still not fine the issue. :)

Yes there was a minidump. I did use the verifier but after rebooting from
safe mode(only wasy it would boot) to windows it crashed again. I'll send
the last minidump to you now.

Thanks Again!

Joshua,
The email address I sent it to gave me a delivery error. Could not connect
to server. Is the address below the correct one?

Hi Parker,

Remove the online portion. It is there to avoid spam as this is my work
address.

Joshua,
I have found the problem with this laptop. The virus-scanner(AVG Free)
processes were failing and rebooting the system. I uninstalled and
reinstalled the program and it now works just fine. Has this been a problem
for AVG or is this a unique situation?!
Thanks Again for all he Support
