browser stops responding as new window is opened

my browser stops responding as soon as a new window of
internet explorer is opened. so i cant even access sites in
which the links pop up. because as soon as a lonk pops up
in anew window, my browser stops responding. i cant even
keep 2 windoews open at one time because the minute i click
to open a new window, my browser stops responding. i am
using windows xp and hav ie 6.0 of xp compatible. please
can someone help me out here.
