Hi,
the scenario: one domain, multiple DC-s (w2k+w2k3), about 80
PCs(w2k+xp). Some XP-s are not listed in browser list, despite they
are registered in AD, in Wins, there IP's are correct (by DHCP), so
everything looks ok.
I tried to reinstall them, to remove and readd the NIC, but without
success.
Any suggestion?
Thanks,
Tila
Tila,
What's unique about these problem computers running Windows XP? Are they newer,
or on a different subnet, or something definable?
See what browsers are associated with the various computers - check a few of
each group.
The Microsoft Browstat program will show us what browsers you have in your
domain / workgroup, at any time.

You can download Browstat from either:
<
http://www.dynawell.com/reskit/microsoft/win2000/browstat.zip>
<
http://rescomp.stanford.edu/staff/manual/rcc/tools/browstat.zip>
Browstat is very small (40K), and needs no install. Just unzip the downloaded
file, copy browstat.exe to any folder in the Path, and run it from a command
window, by "browstat status". Make sure all computers list the same master
browser.
For more information about the browser subsystem (very intricate), see:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188001
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188305
<
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winntas/deploy/prodspecs/ntbrowse.mspx>
You could check all of your workstations, with very little effort. Use PsExec
(free) from SysInternals
<
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/psexec.shtml>, and run browstat on
all computers, one after the other, from a master computer:
"psexec \\* browstat status". Just copy psexec to a universally accessible
shared folder on your LAN.
Why do you have workstations that need to see each other anyway, on a domain
with DC-s and presumably file servers?
The browser subsystem has built-in latency. It's not an immediately up to date
directory system. It's best when used to enumerate the servers. Hopefully with
an 80 client LAN, you're not doing peer-peer sharing?
