Browser does not recognize isp connection

After upgrading from 98 to XP pro and setting up for PPPOE I can
authenticate a connection with my isp server but internet explorer
cannot find any web pages and outlook does not work. I am connected
though as my connection status shows bytes being received and sent

My isp uses the software built into xp. It connects with the isp, but
the browser doesn't recognize this connection. Could it be a winsock
problem.

Control Panel|INTERNET OPTIONS|CONNECTIONS tab|SETTINGS

UNcheck "use proxy", if that item is checkmarked...unless you need a
proxy, of course.

Also be certain that the DNS address is correctly configured. Your ISP
may be able to help you set things up; give support a call.

Thank you dev
Use proxy is unchecked and when I called isp support they told me to
leave dns addresses blank. Did they lead me astray?
