bringing work home-wont open

I have a grading program that I use at school in which I brought home and downloaded to my computer. Now, when I do grades at school I save them to a disk with the hopes that I can come home insert the disk and update/add/change things to my gradebook. However, this is not working as planned....The computers at school are IMacs but with disk drive attachments... could this be tbe root of my problem?? HELP
 
are you running a PC or a Mac at home......???
