Is there a function key or combination of keys to immediately turn monitor to
black to provide privacy for confidential information on the screen.

You can use WinKey+D to minimize all open windows and display the desktop.
There is also (on my system, at least) a QuickLaunch button for the desktop.
My keyboard has a button to make the computer "hibernate" (or something),
but I have only tried that once and had the devil of a time figuring out how
to revive it!

Unfortunately Hibernate will not act quickly enough to wipe the screen. You
switch the PC back on to restore from hibernation and it starts again where
you left off.

A laptop may well have a screen blanking function - on mine it is Fn + F11.
