I tried this question in a couple places yesterday and no
one replied - Starting to get the idea briefcase dosen't
work very well, or no one knows how to use it!
:
I'm trying to use Briefcase to Backup /update/share files.
I followed the MS Help directions and copied a folder
including all my important files to the briefcase. Then
tried to drag the briefcase to a CD-RW in my d drive. The
help instructions are a little vauge on this so I did this
in Explorer where I could see all the files & drives.
I get a message saying "Windows cannot copy this file or
folder"
Anyone familier with this process or know a better help
resource?
Thanks
..

If I understand correctly. Briefcase does not actually hold anything but
short cuts and compares versions of file between two locations.

Hey Bert,

Yes, briefcase is crapola and I recommend a third party software app (sorry
MS!) but that's not the problem here. You're trying to use the CD-RW like
it's a floppy disk but WinXP doesn't work with your CD-burner that way. You
need a third party application like FileCD that tricks XP into thinking it's
a floppy or hard drive that it can read and write to on the fly. I got my
copy for free inside a package of memorex CDs, but I know they sell it for
19.95 somewhere. It's not made by memorex, do a google search for it (and
I'm sure there are others out there as well)

Thanks for the straight forward reply! I have InCD that
copies on the fly...but it still does not work with
Briefcase. Too bad.
Guess I'll try using a Back up Utility.
(again probably something other than MS - the one in here
is too hard to work with)
