My son is in the basement, and he wants to host LAN parties.... I have
wireless internet available...

Can i install a wireless card in the XP box, and then set up Internet
connection Sharing to go into a switch, that everyone else will be using for
LAN and the internet?

Do I need a crossover cable?

If the goal is to provide network segmentation (IOW, the kiddies in the
basement can't see your computer upstairs) you might just want to buy a
router, hook it up to your existing network with a different network address
range, then have the guests plug into that. You can probably set his PC up
for ICS and use a switch instead but then his computer becomes a potential
conduit into your existing network and you might well have to change
addressing on your existing network to accommodate ICS since it will want
the 192.168.0.x range of addresses for itself.
