Brain Dead with DSL problem

I have a DSL connection networked with two others
computers in another room. All of a sudden, the computer
which has the main connection stopped working. I mean, I
can't get online. On the other hand, the two other
computers get online, either through the network or by
itself thru the modem. I already did everything I know:
restore, checked the modem, switched the network card,
use the diagnostic lights(DELL option), SFC, delete
cookies history , lower the security settings , changed
wires, took the HUB off and disconected the other
computer and tried to connect the computer itself ,and so
on. And NOTHING seems to work. My technical support says
that the problem is the configuration because the modem
is not being able to communicate with the computer and
that I should call a technician or use the recovery CD.
I do not have a third part firewall enable, the only one
is the XP ICF. I also have all Microsoft updates up to
the day my computer stopped working, last week. If I run
IPCONFIG/ALL I do get anI P ADDRESS, however the last
line: DEFAULT GATEWAY is blank and because of that my
technical support believes that's the reason why the
modem does not communicate with the computer. Once in a
while I do not get an IP address at all when I run
IPCONFIG, all it comes are zeros, then if I run it again
I will get the IP. When I run IPCONFIG/RENEW I always get
the message: AN ERROR OCCURRED WHILE RENEWING INTERFACE
LOCAL AREA CONNECTION: UNABLE TO CONTACT YOUR DHCP
SERVER.REQUEST HAS TIMED OUT. I guess it never renews,
because I always get this message.
I also installed "SPYBOT" and cleaned up the spyware and
junk. I also replaced the WINSOCK AND WINSOCK2 KEYS even
though I wasn't sure if it was necessary. After doing so,
I installed the TCP/IP on top of itself. And again I get
no results. It stll doesn not conncet online. It's hard
to believe that all the problem is my computer since it's
almost brand new, three months old(DELL OPTIPLEX GX260,
PENTIUM 4). I keep thinking on installing the XP again,
however I believe that nothing will change, since I don't
get any visible error and I fixed almost everything that
might have been getting on the way.
Anyway, to make this long history short, I would really
appreciate if you could have any insight about what's
going on. Any new virus I do not know yet ? Computer
hardware problem ? I 'm brain dead at this point ans I
can't think of anything else.
Thanks in advance.
Josh.

You were not very clear about the network you have setup.
1. Do you use a router between the DSL and all the computers
or do you use one of your computers as the gateway? A
router will act as your MAC address to the DSL and assign
each computer on your network access. Much better than a
hub or switch for that purpose.

2. What software did you install just before the problem
began?

3. Open your command prompt Start/run/cmd, then try
"ipconfig /?" to see the help for the command. ipconfig
/all will show all the details and if I remember correctly,
ipconfig /renew will re-establish the IP.

I have a computer as a GATEWAY networked with the 2 other
ones through a hub. I do not use a router. I did not
installed anything before start having the problem,
believe it or not. I already tried to use IPCONFIG/RENEW
and I ALWAYS get a message as I said before. Never Renews.

Since you are using the computer as the gateway and the
other computers are getting on-line using a connection made
by or to the problem computer (if I understood what you
said) the problem has to be in the interface within your
computer from the bridge to the browser.

The DSL modem is looking for the MAC address of your NIC,
which is present on the NIC only. When it sees that it
connects to the Internet. Since the connection is on to the
LAN's hub the other computers can use it. But your network
connection or software is being blocked by something between
layer 1 and your computer. It could be the firewall, it
could be a damaged card.
Try removing network services in add/remove programs
(Windows components) and then reinstalling.
