has anyone had any great succeses in reducing boot up time?

It takes my image 47 seconds to get to the desktop from power on. My XP Pro
takes 25 seconds.

I disabled all the same services on each image but cannot seem to get the
XPe any quicker.

Any ideas where to trim some fat?

Do you have network drivers presnt in XPe?
Do you have network configured in XPe?
This could be problem with using DHCP for obtaining IP adrress and that you do not have DHCP server on network present.

WJO14,

Make sure your DHCP server response is quick. Or switch to use static IP (at least for testing purposes).

You may want to use a tool called BootVis that will allow you to explore your image boot time and will show you the driver,
processes, components that slow the boot down.

A few links on where you can download the tool (not from Microsoft site any more, though) has been posted in this NG.

Yes there are network drivers.
Yes the network is configured.

DHCP is quick in XP Pro.

Will look at some utuility mention in the next responce.

Thanks.

DHCP looks quick in XP Pro so now sure what is happening here.

I will try the utility mentioned below.

Also minlogon is not a option for me. I need multiple accounts.

Thanks

DHCP is quick in XP Pro.

Nevertheless check if XPe was able to obtain valid data from DHCP server.

So I completely disabled networking and the boot up is still slower.

Something else is causing the slow down.

I ran the Bootvis utility and the time it takes for the shell to start is up
to the 21 second point.
The shell itself only take 2.63 seconds.

I'm a little stumped here but will dig some more.

WJO14,

Also add /SOS switch to boot.ini to see if there is any delays in loading drivers.
Disable as much services as you can (temporarily on the target) and see if it helps.

Narrowing down the area for research always helps :-)

Thanks I disabled just about every service I can see not required. Only a
hand full of service running.

I'll try the SOS switch.

Cheers
