booting up

hi my knowledge is brief, home edition of xp now taking between 30-35 mins to
start from when i press the on button to be able to use the pc, this happened
suddenly don't no how any ideas to solve .
i tried running anti virus and a system restore not done a thing any ideas
please reply thanks cal
 
Have you also run anti-spyware programs? Many spyware and malware programs
get missed by anti-virus alone. Check here http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

If the steps you've taken haven't uncovered any spyware, viruses etc you
might be experiencing hardware problems. Start by running diagnostic
software on the RAM http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Visit the manufacture of your hard drive and download it's diagnostic tool
to check the integrity of the drive.

By the way how long does it take to boot to SafeMode?
