Hello world !

Sorry for my english...it's a long time ago ;-)

Ok, I've made an El Torito image from my own System ( for testing ) with the
whole EWF things and spezial settings. Add an old 1 GB HD (FAT32) in my
System and resize it to 630MB. It's an active primary partition. Copying the
image files on the HD and use hd2iso.exe. The ISO files was made correctly.
Then burned it with Nero on a rewritable CD. Reset and boot from CD...System
stops at: Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM 1. H System Type-(19)...nothing happens...

Any ideas ?! I'm at the end of my knowledge...

Greetings

Carsten

Carsten,

There are several steps in the make a bootable CD-ROM. Not sure which ones
you performed base on the information that you provided:

1. Did you run the image on the harddrive to go through FBA? and Did you
have an El-Torito disk in the CD-ROM drive during FBA?
3. Did EWF and El-torito drivers load correctly?
4. Did you run ETPREP?

Also, RW CDs don't make the best bootable CDs. They can be used, but
sometimes they are hit and miss. You might want to try a CD-R.

Oh, I see I've stopped at point 3. Didn't run FBA, yet. But now the real
problems are starting...

"Insert the CD into your device CD-ROM drive and boot the run-time image
located on the 650 MB hard disk partition.
The Eltorito.sys driver will detect, report, and set up the new disk volume
during the Plug and Play enumeration phase in FBA."

Don't know what it means. "Insert the CD ( the (my) image I've burned ? )
into my CD-ROM ( in my normal WindowsXP system I'm working with ) and boot
the run-time image ( the image files I copy to the HD ) located on the 650
MB hard disk partition." hmmmh, think I can't boot from this HD. It's on a
raid-system. In my System are 4 HD's and 3 CD-ROM so I have to connect the
HD on the primary or secondary IDE, right ?!

Thank you for helping.

Carsten

Carsten,

You have to create a throw-away El-torito CD in order to load the driver.
Once you download the image to the partition, run hd2iso to create the
throw-away CD, and then run FBA.

Sean,

This is my ( Microsoft's) how-to:
To set up an El Torito system, you must complete the following steps:

1.. Build an El Torito run-time image. For more information, see Building
an El Torito Run-Time Image.
2.. Transfer the run-time image to your FAT boot partition on the device.
3.. Convert the run-time image to ISO format and copy it to CD. For more
information, see Converting the Run-Time Image to ISO Format before FBA.
4.. Run FBA and validate the status of EWF. For more information, see
Running FBA and Validating the Status of EWF.
5.. Run the Etprep.exe tool. For more information, see Running Etprep.exe.
6.. 3Convert your updated run-time image to ISO format. For more
information, see Converting the Post-FBA Run-Time Image to ISO Format.
7.. Boot your run-time image from the El Torito CD. For more information,
see Booting the Run-Time Image from an El Torito CD.
At the moment I'm starting with point 4. For my understanding: Now I have to
put the image CD in my CD-ROM and boot from the 630 MB HD where I copy the
image files to. I can't see any files on the CD but I read this seems to be
all right under normal Windows XP. Now I've another problem. I connect the
HD to the primary IDE-port as master. The BIOS recognice the HD correct but
then the system stops at "Verifying DMI pool data...". Connect to the
RAID-IDE the HD works correct. So I think I have to solve this problem
first...

THX !

Carsten

Carsten,

Oh yeah, I know these steps well. In Step 4, you need the CD from step 3.
See previous post. The El-Torito is a PnP driver and needs a device -
El-Torito CD- in order to load.
