Greetings to all ...

I have a need to boot off of a CD-ROM with SPINRITE 6.0 ... What do I
need to do and /or what files to I need to copy to a CD-ROM to make it
"bootable"??? I'm using WIN XP SP1.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

To reply, remove *nospam* to insure is not returned as "undeliverable".

If this application requires that you boot off its CD, then one would expect that it has a bootable configuration.

Check the manual: it may have an old MS DOS or DR DOS or Caldera DOS.

If it doesn't then, it will also have instructions on how to use the application.

What a great thought: consult the user manual for instructions.

Here's an idea: - RTFM.

Firstly, your BIOS needs to be able to boot off of a CD-ROM. Anything
made in the past seven years or so can do it, but you may need to change
the boot priority. All BIOS's are different; you're on your own for
this one.

If the CD-ROM is already burned and ready to go, pop it in.

If you need to burn it yourself, instructions should have been provided.
You'll need to select the emulation type, sector count, offset and
image file before you even copy the files. Your CD burning program (NOT
Windows's built-in engine) can do this. Every setting is different for
every program. As has been said, RTFM. It's about all you can do in
this situation.

For SpinRite 6, you won't need anything extra on the CD. When you run the
program, use the button to create an ISO or IMG file. Then, using a CD
burning program that understands ISOs, burn that file to the CD, and voila,
you have the bootable CD.

Then, as others have mentioned, be sure your BIOS is set for booting from CD
before hard drive.

BTW: for those who don't know what SpinRite is - it's a fast, super great
utility for diagnosing disk surface problems and, to a greater degree than
any other tool out there, recovering data off "unreadable" sectors. Steve
Gibson programs in assembly, so his code is small and fast! He's one of the
true Good Guys in computing. Lots of good security testing tools and info
on his site as well. www.grc.com

You might want to learn how to 'munge' your email address properly. Whilst
it might not be deliverable to you, it will be deliverable to your ISP (as
the domain is still vailid). A spambot will still harvest the address, the
spam will be dumped on your ISP and ISPs have been known to terminate the
accounts of people who leave them to deal with all their spam.

The word you're looking for is 'ensure' (meaning 'to make sure'). Insure
means 'To make sure, certain, or secure'. Also not to be confused with
'assure' which means 'to remove doubt'.
