After installing the wrong version of internet explorer
6.0, my friends xp machine has "died". It wont boot up to
windows. Comp gives a couple of error msg's, and
freezes. I know that i we can get it into windows, we can
use the system restore feature to undoo the bad install
and install the correct verson of ie, but how do i get
into windows. dont have access to xp disk, but can get
friends. (problem started when trying to fix an issue
with ie freezing up by the third window, and being told
that all one needed to do was install the previous verson
of ie (go from 6.0.28 to 6.0 or so)

Thanks for any help i can get

Hi Charles,

Configure your computer to start from the CD-ROM drive. For more information
about how to do this, please refer to your computer's documentation or
contact your computer manufacturer.

Insert your Windows XP compact disc (CD) into your CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
drive, and then restart your computer.

(You can also boot with a Windows 98/Me Startup disk with CD support and run
WINNT.EXE in the I386 folder on the CD)

When the "Press any key to boot from CD" message is displayed on your
screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

When you see the following message displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen,
press ENTER: To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.

At this point an option to press R to enter the Recovery Console is
displayed. Do not select this option.

On the Windows XP Licensing Agreement screen, press F8 to agree to the
license agreement. Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is
selected in the box, and then press the R key to repair Windows XP. Follow
the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

Thanks, now all i have to do is figure out how to access
the bios on friends comp (if comp is not set up to boot
from disk, but can figure that out). you just saved my
but. Sometimes the best way to learn something is to have
it blow up in your face.

any clue as to the Internet Explorer issue? is not a
memory issue, as occures even when cookies, files, and
urls have been removed, and disk space allotment is
doubled. Have not checked the swap file, as am not sure
how to do that on xp. have removed temp files, and that
fixed it for around 2 days, but would not fix issue after
that. thanks
