Booting into Win XP Problem

Hello All

I have just partitioned and installed win XP pro on a friends computer.
Worked fine until I logged on to his ISP to try out the DUN settings. After
verifying the Username and password I then got the 'blue screen of death!'
When I tried rebooting, the computer could not detect any hard drive. Had to
use the recovery console on the installation CD, which wasn't wholly
successful. Now when I try to boot, it shows the Dos (or Bios?) start up
screen, goes up to starting windows and then loops back to starting the
computer all over again.
Short of partitioning and re-installing windows, can some kind soul please
advise?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Regards,

Dave

Thanks Rick. I shall give that a try.
Should I find a solution I will post it here for T Greco as well.

Hey Dave

I have the exact same problem. If you find any information can you foward it to me, if possible

Hi,

The problems may not be related to the ISP setup, it may simply be
coincidental. The first thing I would do is download and run a drive
diagnostic on the system. It sounds like the drive failed, and this is not
unheard of on a new setup. Usually, they will fail shortly after first use,
or after many, many years of service. It may be a candidate for an RMA. You
should be able to find the diagnostic on the web site of the drive maker,
they are usually free.
