Boot up XP home

When I start my PC (XP home)and I log on with any of the
4 users at home, the PC goes to my home page screen for a
second then automatically logs out. I can't open any
files at all. Unable to reload my XP cd or access floppy.
When the XP programme is loading up I also noticed it
initially has a narrow screen as well.

I'm not that well up on pc jargon and a novice at dos,
but any help would be appreciated.

Cheers Rob

"PC goes to my home page screen "
Is this after the computer has fully booted up and you open Internet
Explorer?
Have you turned off 'System Restore ' and done a full virus scan on your
harddrive?

By home page I mean my desktop where all my icons are!
It is only there for a second so I dont get time to open
any programme ..... IE or "System restore"

I've tried pressing F1 to bring up the BIOS but nothing
happens.

PC appears to restart ok each time but when I log into my
site or any of the other family members it logs straight
off the desktop page as soon as it opens it.

.
Try booting into the safe mode by pressing the F8 or
whatever key early in the boot process. Then mayby select
that option for; "last known good configuration", or
while in the safe mode run the system file checker tool,
by clicking start, run, and type in this; sfc /scannow
with that space after sfc, and it may ask for your XP CD.
