When my win xp starts, I get a black screen and the computer starts
bleeping. Pressing any key stops this bleeping and the computer then boots
up successfully.
It did not use to be this way. I have done system restore but to no avail.
Any help? Thanks in advance

sounds daft, but check your keyboard, maybe a key is jammed or a file is leaning on it. Sometimes they bleep a certain amount of times to let the engineer know that a piece of hardware needs attention. If you check out your hardware profiles to see if anything isn't working properly - you've aleast isolated the problem, if there is one.

Many thanks Zara. That was spot on. My F12 key was jammed. The keyboard
needed a bit of cleaning.

The computer boots up fine now, after cleaning the keyboard and releasing
the F12 key, without the annoying continuous bleep. Thanks.
