boot up problem

It might be your Ram. If you have two Ram modules then remove one and
see if it works. If not then try it with the one you
just removed. Otherwise if you have only one module then try it in a
friends computer.

On start up my computer stays black and starts to beep
over and over again

That is a serious hardware issue, involving a probable failure in one
of the major components such as the motherboard, CPU, RAM or video
card.

The beeps that you hear are produced by the Power On Self Test in your
computer and the pattern of the beeps can identify the specific
component that failed. The documentation that came with your
computer may include a description of the various beep codes produced
by POST failures and what each of them signifies.

Unfortunately there is no standarisation in the codes. Many years ago
a series of 7 beeps (repeating) was used by a number of BIOS makers to
indicate a video card failure but even this almost-standard no longer
applies. A RAM failure was often indicated by a single long,
low-pitched tone (rather like a foghorn).

Hope this is of some assistance.

Good luck
