I cannot boot in safe mode, I cannot get in command line, I cannot find my
windows xp pro disk to restore/repair, I have tried to restore to last good
known conf.....does anyone know how to make a boot disk? I have a computer
running Windows XP home but it is an acer computer, I tried to make a back up
disk but I recieve an error only good for acer computers. I have a soyo
dragon mother board, I have been doing alittle over clocking, restored
default setting on the mother board. I do heard alittle hard drive noice, you
know the noise you don't like to hear. I have 2 hard drive portioned off into
5 sections. If I don't mind to reformat C drive but with out the disk, it
makes it tough, Does any one know how to get around this?

thank you

I think the answer is rather obvious:
- Get a replacement for your WinXP CD.
- Don't muck around with the CPU clock settings. If you're lucky,
you will only damage your existing Windows installation. If you're
unlucky, you will damage your CPU.
- If your CPU is fried, try posting in a hardware newsgroup.

I can get into CMOS and BIOS, all hard ware looks good, I am looking for a
boot disk that will at least allow me to get in to command line-----DOS. All
my software and computer books are packed away. But I think if I can get into
DOS I can see how bad the hard drive is in the \dir

DOS boot disk: www.bootdisk.com
NTFS reader under DOS: ntfsdos.exe (www.sysinternals.com)

Don't see how you can say all hardware looks good when in the original post
you said the hard drive is making a noise - the kind you don't like to hear.

You need an XP installation CD.

Backup up all important data before you do anything else.

the hard drive noise I hear is the bearing is starting to go bad and I hear
alittle hard drive thrash at startup.

write know I want to get into DOS to see how bad it is, I got in and it
doesn't look bad, I think I must have a bad file somewhere. I ran a scan
within DOS and it didn't find anything, YES I made a DOS boot CD, I made 3 or
4 of them, some worked better then others. But the hard drive files don't
look bad so I need to find my XP disk so I can repair then back up and
replace the hard drive.
