the internet. This just started about a week ago and I

Could be a trojan dialer bot. Get Spybot Search & Destroy, Ad-aware
(search for them) and some decent antivirus protection (AVG is free,
search for it) and a free software firewall (Zone Alarm free or Kerio
Personal Firewall) and get that machine cleaned up and protected.

1. Check your box for viruses:

Update antivirus. Run scan.

2. Scan for spy/add ware:

Download, install, update:

Spybot-S&D (http://download.com.com/3000-8022-10122137.html)

AND (it's AND, not OR)

Ad-aware (http://download.com.com/3000-8022-10214379.html?tag=lst-0-2)

Scan your box using both programs in the Safe Mode.

Good Luck!

Thank you.

Have Norton anti-virus. Run it at least twice a week.
Have zone alarm running at all time on the internet. Run
Spy-Bot after each visit to the internet. So the system
is clean. That does not appear to be the problem.

Thanks but have ALL those programs and run them
regularly. Don't believe that is the problem.

optimize Windows XP for the best performance:

Hi Chuck,

Right click My Network Places/Properties/Advanced (top toolbar)/Dial-Up
Preferences/Enable Auto-Dial by Location/Uncheck all locations and check off
always ask me before auto dialing. Also, Disable autodial while I am logged
on.

In the Enable Auto-Dial By Location dialog box, select each location for
which you want the automatic dialing feature to operate. Reboot.

Disable or Enable AutoDial (Line 91)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To view the list of names and addresses recorded by AutoDial, type the
following command at a command prompt: rasautou -s

To delete a name or address entry from the list: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\RAS Autodial\Addresses

Do you have ZoneAlarm, and if so, did you update it to version5? If
so, uninstall it and go back to v4.5. Other troubles will disappear,
like inability to do CHKDSK if NTFS, and long delays on right-clicks.

Did you really try everything? Did you clean your PC of spyware?
