I've been using XP Pro for about 18 months on my present
computer without problems, but a couple of days ago, my
booting sequence is delayed. From the time the desktop
appears till the little musical sound plays is about 2-3
minutes. During that time I can't launch Outlook Express
or Internet Explorer. If I do so, it hangs up. I use
Norton Antivirus 2003 & do regular live updates. During
that time, I can launch Wordperfect & other programs.

Please advise.

See what happens if you change Norton to not automatically update. I had a
problem with a delayed bootup when I had auto update selected. I have a
cable internet connection that is always "hot". I think during bootup
Norton was trying for an update while other items were trying to load. With
auto update deselected in boots in one minute with no problems.

Before I open IE or OE I do a manual update check with Norton.
