Is there someone out there who can help me?? My son has
infected my main computer with a virus that seems to have
corrupted my hard drive from starting up on its own and
now requires to have the cd-rom for windows xp to boot up
the hard drive. It almost acts as if it is trying to boot
up from the burner. I have tried to re-install windows xp
and this virus (?) keeps it from doing a full install and
still requires the system to be booted up with the cd-
rom. Can someone please tell me how to correct this???
Please use easy terms as I am by no means a computer
whiz!!! Thanks, Marie

Well, if your computer is infected, the first thing you need to do is
get rid of the infection.

To repair the boot sector, boot from the WinXP CD. Then select the
"Repair" option. You should eventually get to a screen that is just a
drive letter and prompt. Change to "C" drive if necessary, then simply
type "fixboot" and enter. This should repair the boot sector and your
computer should boot normally.
