Hi,

I have a broken enter key on my laptop's keyboard and my wireless keyboard
doesn't work until windows boots. The issue is that I get to the safe mode
menu and then cannot select the last known good configuration option or safe
mode option and if I let the timer run down the laptop reboots and I have the
same problem. Is there anything I can do other than replace the keyboard for
the laptop itself? I have already tried a normal boot disk but if there are
any other disks anyone could recommend that would be brilliant.

Cheers

Try entering the ASCII code for Enter via the keyboard:
- When you see the boot menu, use the cursor up/down keys to
stop the timer.
- Navigate to the menu line you want.
- Turn on NumLock on your keyboard. Consult your laptop
manual if you don't know how.
- Do this:
Hold down the Alt key.
Tap the "J" key (equivalent to Numeric Keypad "1")
Tap the "L" key (equivalent to Numeric Keypad "3")
Release the Alt key
Windows should now start in the selected mode.

Hi,

I used the enter key shortcut on the different options on the boot option
screen however for some reason either the laptop reboots again or some text
appears followed by a reboot. It may help if I explain that the reason I
think all this has happened is down to the laptop over heating and
consequently turning itself off during a disk cleanup. Any ideas of how I
could get past this?

Cheers

Bite the bullet and send it to a repair shop.
