Hi

Can anyone help...

I am having a boot problem on my computer. I have just installed a
basic 5.1 sound card. Since then the computer will not boot into
windows (XP). I have removed the sound card again and it still will not
boot.. I can get into safe mode and have disabled all sound devices
(As there was a sound card once installed but this was removed a long
time ago.. I thought maybe the drivers were conflicting... still
nothing... Has anyone got any suggestions as to how I can fix this
problem?

Thanks
Tali

"Since then the computer will not boot"

What exactly happens when you try? Also check Event Viewer for errors.

If you can boot via safe mode but not "normally" - the culprit is a driver.
Disabling or "removing" devices via Device Manager does not remove drivers.
System Restore's primary function is to correct faulty application install -
have you given it a go?

Hi

Yes, I have used the system restore to go back to an earlier time bit
the problem still remained.. I did not actually install any new drivers
only the sound card hardware which I promptly removed again.

I get as far as the Windows xp scroll screen and then the screen goes
blank (When it would normally go to the user screen).

Hi

I have managed to fix the problem which appeared to be the graphics
card... I have disabled this and it now works fine.. although with very
basic graphics..

I updated the drivers and even rolled back to previous drivers but the
problem still remained.. Is there anything else I can try or is the
graphics card just knackered?

It is a Geforce 2..

Thanks
