1) is possible make an immage indipendent from the hard disk size?
2) if the answer at the first question is no, is possibile make a immage valid for all partition > 5 g
3) if the answer at second question is yes. what is the number to insert in target designer 5000 or 5120 (1024 * 5
4) is possible that immage don't work fine with next version of Xpe, can anyone tolk on cut of point

1.
Kernel mode images are independent on partition size.
Eval version (no activation number entered) with minlogon is independent on
partition size. There is even possibility that you can use post FBA
registered version of image based on minlogon.

For winlogon answer is no.

2. Yes
3. As mentioned in TD: "For partitions that are greater than or equal to
5GB, enter "5000" here (regardless of the actual size)"

4. I don't understand.
Image is created after you complete build process.
If you are interested in if XPe tools SP2 will be able to load your project.
Then answer should be positive.
Also I would not be concerned that value 5000 will not be supported, but
some other changes made in SP2 could affect other things in your image.

After upgrade you should do extensive functionality tests of your image.

ok thank yuo for the aswe
if i make an immage with activation number, winlogon, and boot partition size 5000 this immage work fine on all hardisk with size > 5 gbyte but the immage will be not work fine after upgrade on next target designer, and thereis the possibility that the boot size must match with primary hard disk. is correct
NOT
i make an immage with boot partition size 20000 (20 GB) and i make a primary partition with 8 Gb and work fin

Hi guidi,

One of us (probably both of us) have problems with English.

When you say after upgrade on next target designer, what does it means?
You used non SP1 version and then you upgrade to SP1 version of tools?
Or you have applied all QFE's?

Based on your note.
i make an immage with boot partition size 5000 and i make a primary
partition with 8 Gb and it not work the f.b.a not start

When you say "FBA not start". What do you mean?
Have you seen any XPe loading progress bar, or anything?

If you have problems with partition size, XPe will stop on the beginning of
FBA (fba will be executed).
If you don't have any kind of progress bar.
Is it possible that your partition is not bootable at all?
I think that we need more info.

Slobodan

I have not used large partition sizes for a long time, so I can't tell you
with 100% certainty.
But I remember being able to use 5000 for partition size larger than 5GB.

Personally I hope that MS will remove this strange protection, as I see it
is pointless and it only limit us and make a burden on development.

My version of Windows XPE Tools has SP1 actually. I have to load my XPE
images on a wide variety of HDs, so the solution I found was to set in TD a
partition size of 81920 Mb, that I expect to be larger than any HD I will
install XPE on.
This solution works fine now. Anyway, I heard that with SP2 I will not be
able anymore to use in TD numbers different to real target partition sizes.
One more thing: setting in TD 5000 Mb, partitions greater than
approximately 5 Gb give problems as "c0000221 unknown hard error
\systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll" or blank screens after founding the OS boot
record (this demonstrates that the partition was active and bootable, am I
right?). This goes against the tip given by TD: " For partitions that are
greater than or equal to 5GB, enter "5000" here (regardless of the actual
size)."
