My friend has windows xp home and has a problem. someoen
was on it, trying to do a windows update when it froze. i
looked on microsofts website and found out that this is
the problem: (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=kb;en-us;310396&Product=winxp). kernel32.dll is
messed up, and needs to be replaced. we were going to do
that, but when we try to get to the recovery thing, we run
into another problem. He doesnt remember what the
administrator password is, and he has tried every thing it
could be. Does anyone know any other solution to the
kernel32.dll problem or any way around the administrator
password? The main thing is that he has all his school
stuff on there (years of work) and doesnt have it backed
up, so he doesnt want to lose taht information. Someone
PLEASE help. Thank you.

Try searching for the file on the CD and copying it to the System32 Folder
