Can Anybody Tell Me How to uninstall the default XP boot loader & install
one of my choice.
I am running WinXP & 98 on two hard disks
You must not uninstall the default XP boot loader. If you do then
WinXP won't start! You can make it invisible, by modifying c:\boot.ini
for a timeout value of 0.
To install your own boot loader, follow its instructions. When you
boot your PC, this boot loader will load its menu. When you select
WinXP then your boot loader will pass control to the WinXP boot
loader. When you select Win98 then your boot loader will pass
control to the Win98 boot loader.
If Win98 is already installed on drive D: then you cannot use
your own boot loader to invoke it. The reason is simple: The Win98
boot files reside on drive C: and are merged with the WinXP boot
files. Windows 98 is only accessible via the WinXP boot loader.
The situation is usually managed by planning ahead:
1. Install your boot loader in its own small partition.
2. Install WinXP in its own partition, visible as drive C:.
3. Install Win98 in its own partition, visibile as drive C:
(which is a different partition than the WinXP partition!)
4. Tell your boot loader where the various OSs are.
