boot.ini ::

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft
Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="XP Safe
Mode" /fastdetect/safeboot:minimal /sos /bootlog

Hi,

Remove the last line leaving just:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft
Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Delete this:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="XP Safe
Mode" /fastdetect/safeboot:minimal /sos /bootlog

Then close saving changes. You can also simply change the timeout=30 line to
just timeout=3 if the boot delay bothers you. It's always nice to have a
fallback.

I can't browse to boot.ini even after hidden files have been shown. The only way I can access the boot.ini file is if I use the command prompt (or "run"). I'm set up as admin. I think it may have something to do with partition magic 7. I tried uninstalling it and it didnt really uninstall correctly, but it was removed from the add/remove programs list. If youve got nothing, at least tell me how to boot from my secondary slave ide (cd-rw), because my cd-rom drive is physically toast, so that i can reformat and install xp fresh. Thank you very much for your help>>you're awesome.

Hi,

Try the edit button in the control panel/system/advanced/startup and
recovery settings.
