What would happen if boot.ini was deleted? Would the computer boot?

It will probably assume that Windows is installed in
the default folder, i.e. c:\Windows. Don't try it unless
you have the tools to restore boot.ini into an NTFS
partition.

I dont believe so.

Your statement of faith ("I don't believe so") tickled
my curiosity. The test confirms my suspicion: If Windows
is installed in c:\Windows then the boot process complains
about a missing or invalid boot.ini file but it will boot up
regardless.

Hello Pegasus,
Correct. Windows tries the default location to boot if it cannot find the
boot.ini..
First drive, first partition, and c:\windows.(c:\winnt for Windows 2000)
