Is windows xp booting ok? It seems a bit strange having
an empty boot ini file when this file is necessary for
the boot up process. I would have thought you might have
had boot up problems without the necessary information in
the boot file.

However, your boot ini file should look something like
this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect

You will need to change the Windows XP professional entry
to Windows XP Home.

Hope this helps

XP will boot without boot.ini, but will flash a brief error message during boot, something to the effect of "boot.ini is invalid, booting from C:\Windows". I just saw that on one of my computers earlier this week and found boot.ini was corrupted, nothing but garbage characters when I opened it in NotePad. Not sure how it got corrupted or how long it was that way since I usually don't sit there and watch the boot process.

I might be worthwhile looking in the C:\ root for boot.bak, which probably can be copied and renamed to boot.ini after deleting the existing copy.

I installed Windows XP Home Ed. and the boot.ini file is empty.
Can someone tell me what to put in it? Maybe send me a copy of yours?
